Overview

The HIS Application Specialist will be responsible for supporting the implementation, configuration, optimization, and ongoing maintenance of the Hospital Information System (HIS), with a primary focus on Clinical and Pharmacy modules. The role serves as the key liaison between business stakeholders, clinicians, pharmacists, and HIS vendors to ensure successful system deployment, adoption, and continuous improvement.

The specialist will participate in all phases of HIS implementation, including requirements gathering, workflow analysis, system configuration review, testing, training, go-live support, and post-implementation support. The role also involves troubleshooting application issues, managing change requests, and ensuring HIS supports patient care and operational excellence.

Job Description

Pre-Operational Phase (Implementation):

  • Lead and support HIS Clinical and Pharmacy modules implementation activities.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and department stakeholders to gather and document requirements.
  • Review and understand system configurations performed by the HIS vendor.
  • Participate in workflow analysis and HIS process design.
  • Coordinate with vendors, project teams, and healthcare departments.
  • Support system configuration validation, UAT, and integrated testing.
  • Assist in data migration and validation activities.
  • Develop training materials and support end-user training.
  • Support go-live planning and stabilization activities
  • Participate in interface and integration testing with other healthcare systems.

Post-Opening Phase (Operations & Support):

  • Provide 2nd line application support for Clinical and Pharmacy modules.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application, workflow, and integration issues.
  • Manage incidents, service requests, and enhancement requests.
  • Monitor system performance and ensure application availability.
  • Support application upgrades, patches, testing, and new releases.
  • Control and participate in the application change management process.
  • Ensure data integrity and compliance with healthcare standards and policies.
  • Conduct refresher training sessions for clinical and pharmacy users
  • Create and maintain application documentation, workflows, and knowledge base articles
  • Liaise with vendors for issue resolution and system enhancements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical or Pharmacy specialties, Health Informatics, or a related field.
  • 3-5 Years of experience implementing and supporting Hospital Information Systems (HIS).
  • Hands-on experience with Clinical and Pharmacy modules is required.
  • Previous HIS implementation and go-live experience is mandatory.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare workflows and patient care processes.
  • Experience working in hospital environments.
  • Knowledge of healthcare interoperability and integration standards.
  • Experience with system testing, UAT, change management, and end-user training.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.


Competencies:

  • Proven experience in implementing and supporting Hospital Information Systems.
  • Strong understanding of inpatient, outpatient, emergency, nursing, physician documentation, and clinical workflows.
  • Experience with pharmacy management, medication ordering, dispensing, formulary management, and medication administration workflows.
  • Ability to work effectively with clinicians, pharmacists, operational teams, and vendors.
  • Knowledge of HIS integrations with LIS, RIS, PACS, ERP, EMR/EHR, and other healthcare applications.
  • Ability to identify root causes, resolve issues, and optimize workflows.
  • Strong capability to train users and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
